Are you a property manager or a landlord? Do you want to be? Then you might be interested in the Durham Landlord Training Workshop that is taking place on November 21st.
The Durham Housing Authority periodically partners with other organizations to run these training seminars. The sessions are meant to help landlords offer safe, decent housing. Having a tenant can be a great source of extra income, but it’s also a lot of additional responsibility. It pays to know exactly what you need to do to keep both you and the tenant happy.
Past workshops have included topics like applicant screening, rental agreements, fair housing standards, management techniques, the eviction process, city code enforcement and how you can maintain a property to legal habitable standards.
For example, once you take on a tenant you’ll be completely responsible for the maintenance of that property. And you will be responsible for offering the property in safe condition to begin with.
The seminar will start at 8:00 am and will run until 5:00 pm. It is located at the City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services Building at 807 E. Main Street Ste 2-300. The cost is $10. You can call (919) 560-1647 x 34254 for more information.
