In our last post we explained what the Energy Star rating is, and we talked about some of the benefits of purchasing Energy Star appliances. You may also have heard that there are some rebates associated with the Energy Star program. Here’s how to find out whether you qualify for Energy Star rebates.
These rebates are designed to provide people with even more incentives to purchase Energy Star products. These rebates come and go and change by zip code, so you need to know where to look.
Start by checking the Energy Star website. They have an online tool that lets you locate offers and rebates for just about any kind of appliance.
You may be surprised by a few of the items on the list. While Energy Star rebates are usually associated with large appliances you may be able to find rebates on smaller electronics such as:
- DVD Players
- Blu-Ray Players
- Computers, Laptops, and Tablets
- Fax Machines
- Mailing Machines
- Printers, scanners, and all-in-one devices
- CFL Bulbs
- LED Lighting
- Ceiling fans
- Light Fixtures
- Decorative Light Strings
Sometimes the government offers Energy Star tax credits, too. Tax season for 2012 has just passed, but the rebates have already been set for the 2013 tax year.
Knowing your options can help you plan your appliance purchases while it’s still early enough to benefit from the associated tax savings. Click here to see how to take advantage of the credit.
The credit is mostly for larger energy efficiency improvements like HVAC systems, roof improvements, insulation and solar panels. You won’t see the smaller stuff like TVs and DVD players on the second list.
